As I sat down to begin my first post here on this overly saturated topic, I thought it would be best to rip up any first impressions you may have about me and my business and start fresh. What better place to begin than step one? That's how all health experts lay out their plans right? In the alternative medicine and wellness industry though, that step has become one the most intimidating and expensive steps to make. It shouldn't be. Let me explain what I mean.
Often times the idea of beginning your wellness journey can seem overwhelming and more stressful than just continuing on the way it's been. It used to be just exercise and drink water. Now it's, "Drink water, eat raw; no, eat all meat; no, eat a balance of meat and raw. No, wait, did you make sure it's all non- GMO, minimally processed and organic? Also, here's about 1200 different supplements you should take because the earth is dying, the soil sucks and you're next if you don't replenish your lack of minerals. If fillers in supplements bother you try herbs, they're better anyway." Did that stress you out? "There's an oil for that, here take a whiff. That didn't work? Try this new breathing technique, because statistics show we don't breathe deeply enough, and deep breathing leads to a longer life. If all else fails, or works, just remember to end every day with 5 things you're grateful for."
Getting healthy no longer is a simple series of choices resulting in wellness. Instead it has become a minefield of near-misses and missteps. We have also so terribly confused and mixed in body issues and shaming. Healthy doesn't always mean skinny looking. Just as your measure of body love should have nothing to do with what's on the scale. Scales should never be trusted as the sole voice of your health picture. Just like a plant should not be synonymous with a clean and life-giving diet.
So, where to begin in this over-informed unattainable journey?
It all begins with one simple question: Why?
Why are you pursuing wellness? Why is wellness now the goal and not just your weight or physical health? Why are you now ready to make changes that up to this point you didn't take time or energy for?
Once you determine the why, the next steps will be much simpler to navigate. Knowing why allows you to see past all the noise and remind yourself of the motivation behind your actions. Your "why" is the driving force behind a balanced attitude toward wellness. Which is where I come in. Here at Restoring Wellness it is my goal to help you join your "why" to a sustainable and well-balanced plan. A plan not just for a season of life but for a lifestyle shift, helping you embrace a life of balance between all facets of your health and person. Where restrictions no longer feel like rigidity and punishment...or the necessary discomfort for greater livelihood. Rather, they are viewed as boundaries to keep you on the path ahead.
So grab a pen and paper and sit with your thoughts for a while. Get to the root of your why for beginning your wellness journey. You've now completed step one.
